Carpet discoloration occurs when a section of carpet is darker or lighter than the rest of the room s carpeting. Spots caused by benzoyl peroxide are yellow to orange in color on most carpet pinkish on blue carpet.

This is called wicking. Different stains require different cleaning agents but you eventually can remove most stains with the proper cleaning product. Another reason these brown stains occur is that dirt that is usually deep down in the carpet resurfaces as the carpet dries. The other common cause of reappearing stains is something referred to as wicking.

When you clean the stain you are cleaning the surface of the carpet. The rinse water then mixes with the deep stain and becomes dirty and discolored. Now pretreat the area with a stain removal. An excessive rinse can saturate the area and allow water to penetrate into the carpet backing and pad.

In order for this discoloration to develop several factors must be present a cellulosic fiber moisture and slow drying. This process can take several minutes so be patient. These stains occur if there is too much cleaning solution and water used during the cleaning process. O ccasionally a brownish discoloration appears on a carpet or rug after it has been cleaned.

One of the causes of this discoloration is a condition called cellulosic browning. You may notice brown stains on your carpet after a thorough carpet cleaning. Be aware that if your carpet is wet for more than 24 hours you risk mildew and bacteria growth. Those with much peroxide are bright yellow and exhibit an orange halo which moves outward as the bleaching action progresses the center turning yellow this is the only household product that causes this peculiar phenomenon the halo is a positive indication that benzoyl peroxide was the culprit.

Make sure the carpet cleaning machine you choose has enough vacuum power to allow the carpet to dry in 6 to 12 hours or you may risk damage from getting it too wet. Carpet discoloration however is a more elusive beast. It doesn t help that there are many products that we use on a daily basis such as mustard ketchup orange soda popsicles etc.
